Johann Adolph Hasse

25 March 1699, Bergedorf - 16 December 1783, Venice
An 18thC German composer, singer and teacher of music. Immensely popular in his time, Hasse was best known for his prolific operatic output, and was a pivotal figure in the development of opera seria and 18th-century music in general.
The Hasse Project website is collaborative and features the work of a number of international researchers and performers.
